Election 2006 Update

• There are now about 5 weeks to go before Election Day and again the congressional campaigns seem to have a greater grip on all of us this year more than the state wide races.

• Not that the state wide races aren’t interesting. In fact, Governor Rell and her Democratic opponent, John DeStefano will be squaring off for the second debate on Wednesday of next week.

• The latest polling data showed that the Governor still has a comfortable lead, despite losing 6% of her lead after the last debate.

• So this debate may be more important than we originally thought.

• Meanwhile, Chris Shays and Dianne Farrell are now in a heated match in the 4th Congressional District. Keep a close eye on that race as it will be closer than people think.

• And on the US Senate campaign Lieberman, Lamont and GOP Candidate Alan Schlesinger will square off for the first time post primary on Monday afternoon in Stamford.

• That should be fun. We will give you the highlights in next weeks Friday Facts.

• Also, this week we spotlight the 9th State Senatorial District (Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Newington and parts of Middletown) which is an open seat with the retirement of Sen. Biagio “Billy” Ciotto.

• In that race, State Rep Paul Doyle (D, Rocky Hill) will be facing off against local businessman Ralph Capenera

• Capenera ran and lost to Ciotto in 2004 and now turns his sights on winning an open seat. But, Doyle will be a very strong opponent.

• Doyle has served part of this district as a State Rep and enjoys the overwhelming support from the very popular Ciotto, who is active and engaged in this campaign.

• For more information about the two candidates, you can visit their web sites,
o Capenera’s is www.voteralph.com
o Doyle’s site is, www.doyleforstatesenate.com

Member Services Update

• We have had a very interesting two weeks regarding a new energy demand response program that can actually put money into member’s pockets if they agreed to curtail some energy use.

• The down and dirty is this: the State DPUC, ISO New England and CL&P have teamed up to offer financial incentives for members to participate in a demand response program.

• The program is being administrated by a third party that was selected by CL&P, Consumer Power Line and Demand Direct.

• CRMA supports Consumer Power Line in their efforts and have spoken to many of our members about the benefits of this offer.

• One key deadline has passed, but if you are interested in learning more, we strongly encourage you to contact us ASAP.

• Also, we continue our march toward putting together a RETAILERS ONLY SELF INSURED WORKERS COMPENSATION GROUP. We have met an important threshold, but cannot stop there.

• We still need your help! Our efforts to gather information needed for an actuarial study has been meet with overwhelming success, but we just need a couple more participants in the study.

• Please consider helping us with the project. Its long term benefits are tremendous for both our members and the Association. Call us today at 860-527-1044!!
